You are required to produce a concise report for Government, reviewing a contemporary UK social policy of your choosing. Your report should succinctly critically analyse the policies history, aims, ideological influences and challenges in implementation. Evaluate the policies impact on service users and social work, concluding with brief recommendations for future policy/research. You are demonstrating your ability to write concisely, provide information in an engaging yet informative way and developing knowledge of a relevant social policy for your social work practice.

Guidance on the completion of the assessment task
-Choose a contemporary UK social policy which is relevant to social work – check with module leader if unsure.
-Provide a concise history of the policies development, identifying its aims.
-Critically analyse relevant political ideologies/social attitudes underpinning your chosen policy eg neoliberalism, medical model.
-Critically analyse challenges in implementation.
-Consider the impact of the policy on both social work and those using services. ( Use respected websites/platforms to obtain research/feedback from those implementing policy and those using services regarding the policy in practice).
-Make some brief recommendations going forward justified by your discussion e.g. areas for further research/evaluation.
-Support arguments where appropriate with relevant literature, which is accurately referenced using the A.P.A. referencing system.
-Present as a report; use headings, subheadings, tables, images, bullet points etc as appropriate.
