my professor asked me if i can write myself a letter of rec then give it to her to edit it. so i can give you an idea about what i did then youou can make it look better.
My involvement with Hamada Lab has been a significant experience in my academic journey. Initially tasked with primary responsibilities such as sorting male and female fruit flies along with virgin and non-virgin fruit flies under the microscope in addition to maintaining the flies stock. I soon transitioned to a deeper exploration of their behavior, particularly in response to varying temperatures throughout the day. Observing the behavior of fruit flies revealed their dependence on external temperatures due to their ectothermic nature. Studying their temperature preferences throughout various times of the day revealed interesting patterns. They showd a preference for warmer environments during the day, gradually transitioning to cooler areas as night approaches.
This discovery led me to start a comprehensive project to understand how temperature influences the life span of fruit flies. A journey that took about three months of dedicated research. After collecting my data and receiving approval from my lab mentor, I had the opportunity to present my findings at the conference in April 2023. It was a significant moment where I could share my research insights and engage with other passionate researchers dedicated to studying fruit flies. Moreover, Our lab’s broader research aims to understand the sleep cycles of fruit flies, particularly focusing on how these cycles align with the mammalian sleep cycle. We’ve delved into exploring their circadian rhythm. This exploration promises valuable insights into understanding broader biological mechanisms related to sleep regulation across species.
This lab experience was more than just scientific inquiry; it was a gateway to meaningful connections with like minded individuals. It provided a platform to exchange ideas, and ask thought-provoking questions. In addition, I not only deepened my understanding of genetics and behavior but also shaped my skills in collaborative research, scientific presentation, and networking. The engaging atmosphere and the collaborative spirit shared by lab members made this journey truly enriching.
