The sociological imagination is about seeing and understanding yourself in the context of history, culture, and other social structural forces that shape you and your environment. In this essay, I want you to apply the sociological imagination to yourself.In this essay, explain what the sociological imagination is and do the following three things:
1. Give us some some background on your family history, how they got to place you grew up most, and a census data overview of the place you grew up the most. (about 1 page)
2. Address issues such as culture, socialization, and the agents of socialization that have played the most significant role in your life thus far. Maybe a key childhood activity, place in your community, or a moment where you learned and made a decision about who you are… (about 1.5 – 2 pages)
3. Stop and think about the world today: The economy/job market, politics, family life, religion, education… What theory do you think describes the world around you, and how does knowing this affect what you will have to do to carve out a decent, healthy, and ethical life for yourself. (about 1.5 – 2 pages)

1. you must type, double space, 12 point font.
2. you should have a good introduction that explains what your paper will do/be about.
3. your paper should be broken up into paragraphs. one paragraph per idea. each paragraph has a lead sentence.
4. your paper must use and properly cite our class material using the ASA style guide. Use our book, our lectures, and our videos. Outside source are not necessary. Citing properly means that you show in the essay where you have used the material e.g. when you use an idea from the reading or lecture you end the sentence with (Trillo 2024) and then you have that source listed in a works cited page (e.g. Trillo, Alex. Intro to Sociology Lecture on Social Structure. Saint Peter’s University. Jersey City, NJ.) Citing is giving credit. Not citing can be perceived as “stealing” and could result in an F for the assignment and the class. The same applies to the unethical use of AI bots (like chat GPT). If you use them, you have to put the work in your own words and properly cite.

6. Section titles are good, they help you and they help your reader. They might even lead your reader (your prof.) to give you a better grade.
