The student will select a country to study its transnational organized crime group(s) and design a strategy for the reduction of transnational organized crime in the respective country.
Goal of the Project Paper: To gain an understanding of the challenges faced by a country impacted by transnational organized crime groups and for developing a strategic approach for reducing transnational organized crime in the selected country.
Description: Students will conceptualize a transnational organized crime reduction strategy for one of the countries examined in this course by presenting and analyzing 6 objectives designed to reduce transnational organized crime. The objectives can be implementation of legislation, enforcement tactics, immigration issues, technical assistance, mutual agreements between or among countries, services, programs or structures. The students may exercise creativity in developing these objectives and thinking outside of the box is highly encouraged for this paper.
Format: Your paper should follow the Seventh Edition of APA guidelines and be a minimum of 7 pages (PARTIAL PAGES DO NOT COUNT) (only the body of the paper will count toward the minimum length requirement. Therefore, the title page, table of contents, abstract and reference page do not count toward the minimum page requirement). The paper should be double-spaced, have 1” margins, be paginated, and be in Times New Roman in 12-point font. Include a minimum of 5 APA references in the body of your paper (in-text citations) and the reference page must be in proper Seventh Edition APA format.
Required Sections of the Research Paper:
1) Title Page – List the title of your research paper and the name of your selected country.
2) Table of Contents.
3) Abstract – Remember, an abstract is not an introduction.
4) Body of the Paper, which should include:
a) Introduction – The Introduction Section describes to the reader the following information:
1) A broad overview of the contents of your research paper.
2) Why a strategy is needed to reduce transnational crime in this country.
3) A brief explanation of why you selected this country to research its challenges with the transnational organized crime group(s).
b) Analysis Section, which should include:
1) Description of the Country – The Description of the Country Section describes to the reader:
2) Detailed description of the country’s demographics
3) Detailed description of the socio-economic problems.
4) Detailed description of why this country has transnational organized crime group(s).
5) Detailed description of historical or political facts or events that have affected or contributed to the existence of transnational organized crime group(s) in this country.
6) Detailed description of the type of criminal activities the transnational organized crime group(s) are involved in and include two detailed events of the criminal activities.
c) Strategy Section – The Strategy Section describes to the reader the following information:
1) Provides a detailed description of the 6 objectives you would employ to reduce transnational organized crime in your selected country to include, but not limited to legislation, enforcement tactics, immigration issues, technical assistance, mutual agreements between or among countries, services, programs or structures. This detailed description contains who, what, when, where and how.
2) Describes what resources you would utilize to accomplish your objectives.
3) Describes what funding sources you would utilize to accomplish your objectives.
d) Evaluation Section – Explain in detail the methodology you would utilize to evaluate each of your 6 objectives to determine if they were having an effect in preventing or reducing transnational organized crime in your selected country.
e) Conclusion – Provides a closing to your paper.
5) Reference Section – Cite at least 5 references.
