Develop a Research Proposal to conduct a nursing study that strictly adheres to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) seventh edition format for student papers. This final written assignment meets the University Writing in the Major or intensive writing requirements. The proposal is the foundation for your submission to the Institutional Review Board. The proposal is submitted at the Final Project link (weighed 20% of your grade)
Resources
Use the two Critiques you submitted and the textbook Appendix B Critiquing Exercises to inform your submission. Expand on your Discussion Three on PICOTs to respond to those components of your proposal. Detail the informed consent based on the textbook Appendix A Consent Form that you submitted for Assignment Three.
Components of the Proposal
1 – Introduction: Include a thesis statement, background of the issue, purpose, and significance to nursing (education, administration, and clinical practice). This section should include current statistics to support your topic (10 points).
2 – State the PICOT and provide evidence-based rationale from textbooks, scholarly journal articles, and vetted websites for each element using resources less than five years old (10 points per area x five areas = 50 points).
- P = Patient, Population, or Problem: Describe the proposed sample, steps you will use to recruit the sample, and a summary of the informed consent.
- I = Intervention or Interest: Describe the type of research design, data collection method (tool or procedure), and context of the interventions.
- C = Comparison Intervention or Current Practice: Detail the implementation strategies, sample inclusion criteria, variables, and data analysis plan.
- O = Outcome(s) Desired: Explain your hypothesis and how your study will impact patient care, address a workplace problem, or improve patient outcomes on your unit.
- T=Time to Achieve Outcome: Identify the estimated time required to complete the study and determine if the intervention impacted patient care outcomes.
3 – Review of Literature: Detail your topic’s current research and best-practice findings by using three to four academic journal articles, textbooks, and Uniform Resource Locators (URLs). Link the problem with the evidence-based practice references and whether you discovered support for a change or continuing current practices (10 points).
4 – Conclusions: How will you disseminate your research findings? What is the value of your study’s information for nursing, and what contributions to better practice outcomes do you expect? (10 points)
5 – The APA format must include a double-spaced document with one-inch margins, a title page, pagination, narrative subtitles, in-text citations, reference page(s), and adherence to collegiate conventions (grammar, mechanics, spelling, usage, sentence, and paragraph structure). The paper should be ten pages long and use at least ten references. All in-text citations must align with the reference list, and sources must be under five years old unless the reference is a recognized classic (10 points).
6 – Submission: On-time by the specified day and hour (10 points).
