Appling the ideas of James Truslow Adams’ “Epilogue” to The Epic of America to the Movie “The Truman show”

We began this unit reading James Truslow Adams’ “Epilogue” to The Epic of America where he coined the term the American Dream. In a thesis-driven essay, apply his ideas of the American Dream to The Truman Show.

In order to help supplement your argument, you will need to find one outside source on your own from a trustworth source. The source may only be used once but needs to bolster your argument.

Logistics:

  • In formulating your argument, be careful not to over generalize. Remember you are analyzing the text or the movie.
  • Use MLA style throughout your paper. I will calculate part of your grade by looking at your formatting. You should have at least three sources on your Works Cited page. Take time to make sure that you are citing sources correctly. Use your handbook to help with citations.
  • Remember that the quality of your essay will depend in part on the quality of the outside source that you find and use for this essay.
  • Your paper should be 2-3 pages long. This does not include the Works Cited page.
  • Make sure that you use your sources in one of the ways that we have discussed in class.
  • The three sources will be Truman show, Adams “Epilogue”, and the one trustworth source you find.
