JIGSAW Strategy for Pertinent Laws, Acts, and Mandates Related to Special Education

Now that you have learned about the JIGSAW cooperative learning strategy, we are going to apply it to this week’s theme: pertinent laws, acts, and mandates related to special education. First, our class will be divided up in “expert” groups:

Group (Pertinent Acts, Laws, Mandates): Members:
Chapter 5: Section 504 Damion, Larry
Chapter 6: ADA Debra, Ahkeyia
Chapter 7: ESSA Kara, Rodarious 
Chapter 8: FAPE Maggie, Caprecia

With your group, you will complete the following steps: 

  • Read your assigned Chapter 
    • Read the chapter objectives/overview and Chapter Summary first 
    • Read the chapter
  • Meet with your group (via email, Zoom, in person) to discuss how you will work together to “teach” the content to your classmates
    • How will you divide up the work? 
    • How will you create your slides to ensure that they are engaging? 
  • Create your presentation using: GoogleSlides, Prezi, Canva, or another program. You can also use PearDeck or Nearpod if you want it to be interactive. 
  • Record your presentation with your group. 

ONE member of your group will submit: 

  • The presentation link or file 
  • The recording
