Directions
You’re now ready to create your PowerPoint OR other multimedia product including a social media post. The focus of your presentation/post should be on advocacy; the goal is to help your target population, or others like you, be able to advocate for themselves when it comes to your chosen health issue (research question). To capture and hold viewers’ attention, include graphics, embed a video, or use other methods in your PowerPoint presentation/post. Be creative with your presentation! If doing a powerpoint, please use PowerPoint and not Keynote or other slide or presentation software.
Please use the outline below for your Powerpoint presentation:
- Slide 1: Title slide. This should include your title, your name, course & section number, & semester.
- Slide 2: State your research question and area of health/dimension of wellness.
- Slide 3: Explain why this question is important to the health of the people you are presenting to (your target audience/population). Make sure you include the specific population that you have developed your presentation for.
- Slides 4–6: Share the key findings about your topic based on your research (annotated bibliography). Integrate the information from your five articles (in other words, write a summary that combines important information taken from all 5 articles). This means you’re looking for common themes that run through the articles that help to answer your research question. What do people need to know from the literature you reviewed? For example, if you asked, “Is there a link between sleep and cancer in adults?” you might share information on links between sleep and cancer in adults (Slide 4), then why sleep may help/prevent rates of cancer(Slide 5), and finally, tips on how to get more sleep (Slide 6).
- Slide 7: What does your population need to be thinking about based on your research findings? Should they focus on prevention (e.g. getting more sleep)?
- Slide 8: Focus on awareness—provide three final thoughts (or a take-home message) for your population that will ensure they’re more aware of the specific health issue and can change their behavior for improved well-being.
- Slides 9–10: References (at least 5 references). (Use APA formatLinks to an external site..)
Reflection:
After completing your powerpoint or social media post, take time to reflect. Write a half-page (single-spaced) reflection that explains how all three parts of your project helped you better understand or answer your research question and become a better advocate on this research topic. You need to fully explain how the research you reviewed can help to inform the question you asked, and possibly inform future research questions that still need to be answered. Upon answering your research question, explain how you may, or may not, have become a better advocate for your target population on your research topic/question.
