This is a group project… My portion of the project is to discuss key issues from the biopsychosocial standpoint that have contributed to this epidemic.
I have attached the first 2 rough drafts that have been submitted to the teacher already. Please disregard due dates below, they are incorrect.
Identify a global health epidemic/pandemic that can be understood
using the biopsychosocial model. Examples include heart disease, cancer,
AIDS, diabetes, and the obesity epidemic. You will:
- Describe this issue and justify why you believe it is a global issue
rather than a local or national one. Thoroughly discuss regions of the
world that have been more/less heavily impacted by this crisis. - Discuss key issues from the biopsychosocial standpoint that have contributed to this epidemic.
- Describe what is being done currently to deal with the epidemic (include key interventions and research in this area).
Please remember to cite your sources by including a references
section with a minimum of 8-10 citations of valid, scientific sources.
Citations and references should be written in APA style. Please do your
best to keep references as current as possible (e.g., 2000 – present).
Checkpoints
You should plan to work on this project throughout the semester (see
checkpoints below). On your group homepage, you will see a link called
Pages. Here is where you will work on your checkpoints throughout the
semester. You should have one page for each checkpoint. One person in
the group should create the rest of the pages (How do I create a new page in a group?
Links to an external site.).
Title them with the checkpoint names in the table below. Your professor
will be checking your pages to make sure the required checkpoints are
met. All items below must be posted on the pages by the due dates to
receive full credit.
Checkpoint |
Due Date |
---|---|
Group Agreement & Topic (worth 2 points) | September 7 |
Description of the issue (rough draft) | September 21 |
Global regions impacted (rough draft) | September 28 |
Key biopsychosocial factors contributing to epidemic (rough draft) | October 12 |
Current handling of epidemic (rough draft) | November 2 |
Rough draft for team’s proofreading | November 12 |
Final draft (will be turned in as an assignment, not a group page) | November 16 |
Additional Details by Section:
- Description of the issue: Describe your topic. Who is impacted? Why
is this a problem? How many people does it affect? Does it affect
certain populations more than others? Etc - Global regions impacted: What areas of the world are impacted? Are
some areas impacted more than others? Describe this issue and justify
why you believe it is a global issue rather than a local or national
one. Thoroughly discuss regions of the world that have been more/less
heavily impacted by this crisis. Are there differences in the way your
topic is viewed in different areas of the world? - Biopsychosocial factors contributing to the epidemic: Discuss key
issues from the biopsychosocial standpoint that have contributed to this
epidemic. Describe how psychology, society, and biology play a role in
your topic. How does nature/nurture play a role? What does the
biopsychosocial model say? - Current handing of the epidemic: How are we currently dealing with
this epidemic. Is research being conducted? Any interventions? - You must have references and in-text citations. You should have a
minimum of 8 to 10 references. In-text citations are NECESSARY for every
part of this paper. Remember, this is a research paper, so you should
be describing each area based on what the research states. I realize
some of you may already have knowledge regarding your topic, but you
must support your knowledge with in-text citations.
Final Draft
The final draft is due April 6. All the information that the group
has compiled throughout the checkpoints should be edited together into
one document that will be submitted by a member in the group to the
Final Group Project assignment linked in the Modules page (it can also
be found on the Assignments page).
