The subject of your paper should be limited to one work, or two meaningfully related works, in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is advisable to select your paper topic during our class visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Saturday, February 24. Choose something that particularly interests and appeals to you, as one of the key purposes of the term paper is to intensify and personalize your interest in the subject matter of our course. Although this is not primarily a research paper, your final paper should include a bibliography and footnotes reflecting your awareness of the important published references for the work(s) in question. IMPORTANT: Do not rely on Internet searches! Use library-approved sources exclusively! Specifications of term paper: 4 pages, typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 font, 1″ margins; numbered pages, illustrations desirable but not required. create a verbal picture of the work, so that a person who could not see it would be able to visualize it from reading your description. tell me about the artist who made the work you have chosen (if known), and about the historical background and/or cultural context for the work. Give me a list of three or four scholarly sources (including the museum website) you have used to prepare this portion of your paper. Combine the descriptive and biographical/historical/cultural portions of your paper. Include an introductory paragraph and a closing paragraph drawing some general conclusions about the work you chose for your term paper. Components of Term Paper – Title Page (optional): Title of paper in center (slightly larger font); your name, name of course, and date in lower right corner – Introduction – Detailed description of the work in your own words – Historical background concerning the artist (if known), place, and period in which the work was made – Conclusion – Bibliography – Illustrations (optional); do not put illustrations in the body of the text
