Purpose:
This assessment will help you to demonstrate Unit Learning Outcome 1: Outline the Evolution of Nursing
as a Profession. Undertaking this task will also help you to develop skills in locating and utilising evidence,
and in writing for an academic audience.

In order to assist you in completing this assessment task a number of exercises and resources will be
provided in seminars and on CloudDeakin:
1. Seminar Activity: Mind-Mapping the role of the nurse in the healthcare context
2. Cloud Resources: Week 1: Before Your Seminar including content around the role and scope
of practice of the Registered Nurse as well as a section on the history of nursing that includes
the COVID-19 pandemic. These resources include an article by Jackson et al that describes
clinical, management and enabling elements of the nursing role.
