The Impact of mentorship on African American teenagers living in lower socio-economic communities

Concept Paper Project The concept paper project provides you with the opportunity to describe your application of the competencies in psychological practice. These elements overlap and build on each other. For example, you will be asked to identify an area of focus in which you may apply the competencies that you established in your specific specialization. You will then be asked to complete a thorough review of the literature that has been established about the application you intend to address. As you move into the application stage, you may find that a critical aspect of the literature review was omitted, and that additional research and literature review is warranted. This would prompt a preliminary inquiry into the topic that would be developed into a research concept proposal. These stepwise processes allow researchers to become familiar with the area of research and the plan to conduct research. The research concept proposal allows for the opportunity to evaluate the potential research for scientific merit before conducting a full research proposal. This is a normal process for any professional. These concepts should guide your integration and synthesis of the knowledge, skills, and professional attributes you developed. You will have access to a rubric that identifies the areas that should be addressed, as well as the different levels of cognitive processes that could be applied. In Capella University’s application of Bloom’s taxonomy, you should meet at least the middle level of cognitive application; this is what is expected and required of the practitioner-scholar. Project Overview For this project, you will propose a new and original evidence-based research topic in the field of psychology. Completion of this project is designed to be a process that you, as a professional, will use to ensure that your work is evidence-based, addresses a specific focus of research or practice, ensures that you have the ability and methods to measure your success, and indicates an understanding that your profession is one of lifelong learning and professional development. As a professional psychologist, you will continue to identify areas of strength and areas requiring additional knowledge, skills, and professional development. Once their master’s degree is obtained, many professional psychologists engage in grant seeking and in grant-funded activities. It is helpful to be familiar with the proposal aspect of this process. You will identify an area of focus as well as develop a research topic. You will conduct a thorough literature search and apply competencies achieved in your specialization or another discipline within the field of psychology. You will then complete a thorough review of the literature that applies to the research topic. The concept paper begins with the background of the research topic. This is followed by the research problem. The research problem will be identified by explicitly stating the research gap. The research question develops from that process. The other areas to be addressed are: Goals and objectives. Population and sample. Methodology, procedures, and conclusion. Note that quantitative methodology is the only methodology acceptable for this project. You’ll work on these sections as you move through the course. Some of the assignments represent some of these sections. You will have access to a rubric that identifies the areas to be addressed, as well as various levels of cognitive processes that could be applied. In the Capella University model of Bloom’s taxonomy, you should meet the middle level of cognitive application at a minimum; this is what is expected and required of the practitioner-scholar. The completed paper should be approximately 12–15 pages in length and must be presented in current APA format. Project Components Each course assignment will be integrated into the research concept paper, which uses the competencies related to your specialization in psychology. Your final concept paper project will consist of the following: Title Page. Literature Review. Background. Research Problem. Research Question. Goals and Objectives. Populations and Sample. Methodology and Procedures. References. The project components overlap and build on each other. The compiled sections will provide a complete concept research paper appropriate for your specialization. See the Concept Paper Project Instructions [DOCX] Download Concept Paper Project Instructions [DOCX]for more detail about each section. Note: You are required to use the Concept Paper Template [DOCX] Download Concept Paper Template [DOCX], provided in the assignment instructions, to complete the concept paper project. Communication Tip Reach out to your instructor early if you find that this process raises questions for you. Addressing these questions is important before you continue moving through the course. The work conducted early in the course informs the remaining course work. Start by reaching out via email. Consult with your instructor on the preferred methods for meeting and discussing course-specific content.
