A) Research the least promising job prospects in your community. Research potential
employers and learn as much as you can about such issues as wages, working conditions,
hours, drug screening, and healthcare, retirement, or other benefits. B) Research recent
efforts to increase the state and federal minimum wage and the concept of a “sustainable” or
a “living wage.” What arguments are made for and against raising minimum income
guarantees? How have experiments with sustainable wages in cities like San Francisco, New
York, or Washington, DC, affected workers and businesses
Using the information you located from your research above, and using
references from the essays: Rutger Bregman’s “Why We Should Give Free Money to
Everyone” (443-455), Mehersa Baradaran’s “From
How the Other Half Banks
” (401-414),
Barbara Ehrenreich’s “Serving in Florida” (378-390) and Alan Aja et al.’s “From A Tangle
of Pathology to a Race-Fair America” (392-400), create an argument essay that evaluates and
considers whether your own state (NJ, PA, CT) should implement a sustainable wage
program. As is evident, you will need to keep track of and locate information about the
state(s), the population, local income levels, taxation, cost of living etc. Print out all your
research and keep track of URLs etc. for citation purposes in your final drafts
There needs to be a work cited page also.
Thank you!
