Writers often reflect on seemingly small incidents or observations that lead them to examine broader themes. The readings in our class usually contain an incident or event that causes the writers to embark on a contemplative journey that changes their lives or their thinking about life.
Ex.
While sitting in an overheated train, Buckley began wondering why we no longer complain.
While on duty in India, Orwell received a call for what he thought would be a “tiny incident,” which changed his view of self-determination.
Prompt: For this assignment, you will examine an event or observation from your life that caused you to decide upon or change your educational goals or your goals in general. You will relate this to “Shooting An Elephant” by George Orwell.

The incident or event from your memory that triggered you to change can be from a text you read, an incident you witnessed, a conversation you had, or any external observation that caused you to change. The incident or event does not have to be dramatic; it is any external observation that changes you.
