For this reflection, I want you to revise your Leadership Philosophy to include aspects of collective leadership, as you understand it; based upon the sources you encountered when writing your annotated bibliography. Think about your philosophy/approach to leadership – also think about any formal “training/education” you have received (thus far in this program and also other avenues) regarding leadership and leadership development. Then, in narrative form (please do not simply answer each question – these are simply prompts – not all have to be responded to – provide a cogent one paragraph reflection of your experiences with collective/shared leadership and how your evolution of leadership might include the concepts provided by collective leadership research you conducted for the AB.
Finally, provide a new Leadership Philosophy Statement demonstrating some progression in your thinking about leadership and incorporation of collective leadership. Also provide your former leadership philosophy statement from MHA 5020.
Prompts:
When thinking about your formal leadership training/education, how much of it is dedicated to the concept of shared/collective leadership? How much seems to focus on the individual traits and behaviors of the leader? Think about what you have been reading and learning about regarding informal leadership – how do they relate?
Now think about your actual experiences – either in school, at work, volunteering – thus far in your life – how much actually has relied on a direct, formal leader and their traits and behaviors? How much, in retrospect, really has been collective/shared leadership?
Now think about your future (or for some, current) role as someone in a formal leadership/management/authority position – how much might you still rely/engage in collective leadership?
These prompts are simply to get you to think about collective leadership as a phenomenon – one that you may or may not have even considered before yet have regularly engaged in.
Your reflection should be 1-2 (no more than 2) paragraphs double spaced. Where appropriate, include references; particularly those you are incorporating from your research for the annotated bibliography.
After you have reflected using the above prompts, provide your original philosophy statement and a new one incorporating collective leadership concepts.
(The leadership philosophy statement assignment and the annotated bibliography on collective leadership are attached within this order)
