Quiz Instructions

This Informational Report is an important part of your
Research Project.

You will give your informational report in the form of a
quiz containing four essay questions. You are to write complete answers to each
of these questions.

You have “in and out” privileges to this quiz. You
can come and go as often as you need. There is no time limit.

You should compose your answers in a word processor and then
copy and paste them into the text box in the quiz when they are complete. This
has two very important advantages:

You will have a backup copy of your answers in case anything
goes wrong.

You can use the spell and grammar checkers in the word
processing program before submitting your answers.

Re.: this last point: I expect graduate-level writing from
graduate students and professional writing from professional students. Both
types of writing require careful proofreading, rewriting, spell-checking, etc.
Spelling errors, grammar errors, and other signs of carelessness will affect
your grade — perhaps significantly.

Every question has multiple parts. Be sure you address every
part of every question.

Give a brief overview of your country, including (but not
limited to) the following items:

 
Government type/political structure
Economic system (capitalist, socialist, Sharia law based,
etc.)
Poverty level and other socio-economic facts about the
population relevant to organizational leadership
Prominent social/cultural features relevant to
organizational leadership
I recommend that you include the headings above in your
overview.  This will allow you to
differentiate between each item AND it will ensure that you address each of the
items above.

Identify one moral issue that you would confront as an
organizational leader in your country.

Describe the situation in your country related to this moral
issue (be specific).

Describe how this moral issue could impact your organization
and your leadership of that organization (again, be specific).

NOTE: A lot of material dealing with international ethics
deals with political or social reform issues, such as poverty, national
governmental corruption, etc. You should shy away from such large issues and
focus instead on issues that are likely to arise in your daily operations as an
organizational leader and your interaction with local culture, communities, and
government as an organizational leader. The issue you identify must be an issue
which you as an organizational leader have some significant power to address.

NOTE: A moral issue is one that clearly creates morally
questionable practices in the country. Examples of moral issues often faced by
multinational and global organizational leaders are:

Bribery

Nepotism

Product safety or quality

Poor or unsafe working conditions

Discrimination against women or certain ethnic groups

Environmental harm

Of course you are not limited to the issues on this list.
But what you choose should be something that is obviously similar.

NOTE: Corruption, per se, is not a moral issue. It is,
rather, a category of many different moral issues. These include: bribery,
nepotism, influence peddling, insider trading, kickbacks, etc.

So DO NOT identify “Corruption” as the moral issue
you will face. It is WAY too big for you to handle properly. Instead, pick out
one of the particular issues like those listed above to deal with.  Focus instead on issues that are likely to
arise in your daily operations as an organizational leader and your interaction
with local culture, communities, and government as an organizational leader.
The issues you deal with must be issues which you as an organizational leader
have some significant power to address.

Question 4

Question 420 pts

This question concerns the moral issue you identified in
Question 3. 

Assume you are an organizational leader (from the United
States) employed by a global organization doing business in your chosen
country. Create a plausible hypothetical scenario in which you, as an
organizational leader in this global organization doing business in your chosen
country, face a moral dilemma resulting from the issue you chose in your answer
to Question 3 above. Explain the moral dilemma.

By “plausible hypothetical scenario” I mean a scenario which
includes a situation that is typical of situations organizational leaders from
the United States employed by a global organization may face when doing
business in your chosen country.

You must provide documentation for your claim that this
situation is a plausible scenario in your chosen country.

Review the following document for examples of plausible
hypothetical scenarios: EXAMPLES OF “PLAUSIBLE HYPOTHETICAL

If you have any questions at all about whether or not your
hypothetical scenario is acceptable, send your professor an email.

Question 5

Question 520 pts

Identify two alternative solutions that you can use to
resolve the moral dilemma in the hypothetical scenario you created in your
answer to Question 4.  These two
solutions to this moral dilemma must be incompatible (if you move forward with
one, you cannot move forward with the other). They must also be solutions which
you, as an organizational leader, can implement.

For each alternative solution, identify one moral principle
that supports it. Explain how the principle supports the solution.

These moral principles must come from those identified and
described in the course materials.

Be creative in identifying your possible responses to the
moral issue as an organizational leader.

Identify the pros and cons associated with each alternative
solution.

NOTE 1: “Do nothing/accept the status quo” is
always an option and must be one of your your two alternative solutions.
Regardless of the issue there will always be pros to this option.

NOTE 2: The pros and cons do not have to be strictly moral
pros and cons. They could be economic, practical, etc.

NOTE 3: At this time DO NOT make any speculation or judgment
about which would be the proper solution. Right now you’re just thinking
through the possibilities and their pros and cons.

NOTE 4: If you can only think of cons for an option, that is
not really an option. Don’t list it. Only list options for which you can
identify both pros and cons.
