Your research paper should be based on fieldwork and include 1600-2000 words. In this research
exercise, you are expected to identify a “myth” phenomenon and provide an analytical study of the
practice supported by outside-of-classroom texts or sources. Such “sources” could include interviews or fieldwork, following an ethnographic approach or online research.
By “myth,” we refer to a wide range of definitions we discussed in class.
You could pick a case study that you deem as a “myth” or entailing a mythical component and
research it.
A “myth” could be any aspect of human society (or societies). It could include a sports game or a
theme in the New Testament, such as apocalypse, redemption, or universal love. Myth could be an
image from Time magazine or an ancient Egyptian myth such as Osiris and Isis. Provide an analysis of the case study (say Osiris) and explain its significance as a myth. You could approach your case from an anthropological, cultural, historical, literary, theoretical, or philosophical way.
Please make sure to pick a specific case study and avoid being too broad.
DO NOT, for instance, write about baptism in a general sense and do research about it that is, across
history and societies.
Do, for instance, write a history of baptism in the 1950s Civil Rights Movement and how the practice
was understood by the activists to fight against racism in that specific historical period. You should
include a broad understanding of baptism as a myth in Christian history and explain why you think it’s a myth.
When researching a subject, please make sure you’re analytical. Don’t just describe what you’re writing about, but examine its history, meaning, and implications in ways you want to define it as a myth.
for sources you must at least use 2 of the sources from the PDFs that I uploaded here. in total you need to have 5 sources. The out side sources must be primary sources
