Criteria
- Your paper should be a minimum of 5 pages (double spaced : 12pt font)
- Have at least 3 reference points (with links only from class videos, class video archive, additional resources and class mixes)
- Have at least 3 quotes (from class videos, class video archive, additional resources only)
Please write a paper (following the criteria) answering the following questions.
- What aspects of POC (persons of color Black / LatinX / Asian) experience, as seen through the lens of Afrofuturism in electronic music, resonate most with you and how will it inform not only your artistic practice but your daily life/process? (if you aren’t an artist, how will it inform your daily life or path)
- Out of all the pioneers or innovators, we researched in class, guests or in additional resources, who will be your starting point for your final paper?
You will be graded on:
- showing your understanding of that pioneer or innovator of your choosing (your starting point)
- showing your understanding of the political and social climate during that period of the genre relating to your pioneer or innovator (for example if you chose Frankie Knuckles, Chicago House.. explain all the political context in the invention of Chicago House. or George Clinton …what political context was Funk derived from.)
- showing your understanding of the evolution of said genre (for example give a brief history of Chicago House, utilizing your media gallery, additional resources and most of all lectures)
- Explaining, in detail, how the music, artists and social change has influenced you and how will it inform life or artistic decisions in your future
