Read the piece “Living a Feminist Life” by Sara Ahmed (found on the Canva). Considering Ahmed’s argument and your own evolving definition of feminism your critical reflection must consider one of the following:
• a social justice call (for example: climate activism, reproductive justice)
• a feminist organization (for example: sistersong, Moms Demand Action)
• a current event (for example: drag show bans, Anti-trans legislation)
to provide a working definition of feminism, offer insight into a feminist topic, and present research through feminist themes and frameworks. Your paper should have a clear topic, thesis, and connection to the overall goals/perspectives of feminism. Your paper should be at least 5 pgs double spaced and utilize at least 3 course readings with 2 outside scholarly sources.
Students must pick a topic related to the above categories and connect it to the central questions and concepts presented in this course. In other words, how is your topic related to the feminist calls to end sexist, racial, and heteronormative oppression?
Your topic should then allow you to do a deeper dive into feminist theories and think critically about what your topic is and how it relates to what you’ve learned in class about feminism. Some questions you might answer are:
• How does this issue relate to powerful and intersecting social systems (racism, sexism, wealth disparity, heterosexism, ableism, etc.)?
• Who is affected by this issue? (individuals, communities, states, institutions, etc.) Who are the key players (activists, organizations)?
• How is this topic being addressed? (historically and currently)
• How does your topic relate to the goals/definitions of feminism?
• How is this issue related to the project of social justice, liberation, and or feminist futures?
• What changes have been made as a result of the activism, policy, demonstrations ect.?
• What change is still needed to resist the workings of racial, colonial, patriarchal, heteronormative structures?
