Describe the discussion surrounding the continuation vs the eliminaton of slavery and during the process of state formation from the Declaration of Independence through the Early Republic. You may focus on an event or a series of related events. A good essay should have an articuble and defensible thesis statement, a clear line of argumentation, include the use of evidence, citations, and a conclusion. See class rubric (syllabus) for more details.
You must use at least three sources from class (documents discussed during lecture are permissible) and at least one peer reviewed outside source or an additional primary source. You have 1100-1300 words, keep in mind that your footnotes and/or works cited are not included in your word count. Either Chicago or MLA style citations are required. Remember, a Works Cited page is not the same thing as a citation. If you choose MLA you must provide a Works Cited page. There is no Works Cited page required for those who use Chicago style. Regardless of the citation style you must include page numbers or time stamps. Papers are to be submitted through Blackboard as word documents formatted in 12pt Times-Roman. Links to online documents will not be accepted.
