The purpose of this study is to investigate short-term memory and if there are any differences on memory between the two different tasks, the number trial test or the consonant trial test. We hypothesize that those who have to do the number trials will have better memory and more correct answers than those who have to do the consonant trials. Measures
Memory
Memory is tested by using the trials of the Consonant Trigram Test. After the participants are given the numbers and letters, they are asked to recall either the given 3-letter trigram or the given number. How many the participants got correct is how we determine their memory.
Number Trials
The participants are asked to remember a random 3-letter trigram as well as 3 random numbers. The participants are given a random number and are asked to count backwards by 3 from that number after that they are given a short break. When the participant is in the number trial they will be asked to remember the number that they were asked to count backwards to. We tested to see if more of the participants got the number correct, the more got it correct shows they have better memory.
Consonant Trials
The participants are asked to remember a random 3-letter trigram as well as 3 random numbers. The participants are given a radom number and are asked to count backwards by 3s from that number after that the participants are given a short break. When the participant is in the consonant trial they are asked to remember the random 3-letter trigram. We tested to see how many of the participants are able to correctly recall the letters, the more who get it correct shows that they have the better memory.
