Case Study Analysis over Tuberculosis Screening, Testing, and Treatment among Asylum Seekers

Every student needs to read all three of the case studies below (they are short). You should be familiar with each case study’s:

    • foundational background arguments,
    • ethical debate surrounding the public health issue,
    • concerns of the stakeholders involved, and
    • ethical questions that arise from these situations.

After you have read the case studies, you will conduct a more in-depth ethical analysis of one case study. You should complete the case study handout below that is assigned to your Discussion Group (#1, #2 or #3).

>> Note that two of the cases below have an additional reference to read for the context of the case.

Case #1: 7.9 – Compulsory Treatment for Injection Drug Use after Incarceration (pages 220-223)

Case #2: 7.12 – Tuberculosis Screening, Testing, and Treatment among Asylum Seekers (pages 235-238)

        • Ethical values of TB: pp. 6, 7
        • Obligation for TB services: pp. 9-12
        • Involuntary isolation and detention: pp. 22, 23

Case #3: 5.8 – Obesity Prevention in Children: Media Campaigns, Stigma, and Ethics (pages 158-160)

After you have read Case #1, Case #2 and Case #3, you should complete the case study handout below that is assigned to your Discussion Group. Note that you do not need to discuss the case with the discussion group. The handout is to be completed with your own answers and submitted on your own.

  • Logistics/Submission Format – The case study analysis should be completed within the Case Study handout. All statements made with information from sources beyond the case studies must be followed by in-text citations and an end-document reference list in APA format.
  • Evaluation Criteria – Refer to the assignment rubric for evaluation criteria.
  • All section criteria are present and the information is thorough and detailed.
