Week 3: Discussion 2 – Conversation Coaching with Learning Team – group assignment – Coaching Team 3

Step 1: Observe – First, spend 24 hours individually engaging in the reflective activity that Stavors and Torres outline on pg. 120 of our required reading this week “Conversations Worth Having: Using Appreciative Inquiry to Fuel Productive and Meaningful Engagement

Step 2: Share – Once you have completed your individual observations, share with your team here in your group discussion space the following:

  • What was the overall “positivity ratio” for your day of dialogue observations?
  • What was an example of a critical or destructive conversation that you had/observed? What was the implicit or explicit frame for the conversation? What do you think would have helped it be a more generative conversation worth having?
  • What is an upcoming conversation you have that you would like coaching on how you might frame it and questions you might ask to help cultivate a generative conversation?

Step 3: Coach  – Reflecting on your teammates’ ask for coaching on upcoming conversations they have, what suggestions do you have to offer each of them for how they might re-frame a situation and what specific generative questions might you suggest they consider to help cultivate a conversation worth having in the future?  As you coach them, make sure you make links to our course materials.
