Beyond the Prescription: Medications and the Shaping of Societal Norms. Ozempic the new corset

Please follow the following rules closely:

Citing:

use only academic papers and sources shared

All sources must be accurately cited and properly referenced
in the bibliography. Failure to do so puts the student at risk of plagiarism.
Students are strongly recommended to use the Harvard Referencing System.

Referencing consists of two elements:

in-text citations, which are inserted in the body of your
text and are included in the word count. An in-text citation gives the
author(s) and publication date of a source you are referring to. If the
publication date is not given, the phrase ‘no date’ is used instead of a date.
If using direct quotations or you refer to a specific section in the source you
also need the page number/s if available, or paragraph number for web
pages.full references, which are given in alphabetical order in a bibliography
at the end of your work and are not included in the word count. Full references
provide full bibliographical information for all the sources you have referred
to in the body of your text.

Idea:

Exploring
the intricate ways in which products, specifically pharmaceuticals like
Ozempic, influence societal norms, focusing on the impact these norms have on
body image and societal expectations. This thesis aims to demonstrate that
constraints on the body and societal norms are not only established through
tangible objects (like corsets) or explicit laws but can also be shaped by
intangible factors, including the promotion and consumption of specific
products. The investigation into Ozempic will serve as a case study to examine
these dynamics.

The plan of the thesis:

Intro

Literature review (that this is aimed for you to do)
Methodology: interview with anorexic patients in a rehab centre
Case study : Ozempic
Analysis of findins
Conclusion

Please can you try and write a literature review with the following structure or idea (feel free to make it more comprehensive, or if you see a better red thread to link it better – please just contact me)

Historical Context

Evolution of Body Image Norms: From physical constraints (corsets) to
pharmacological influences.

Norms That Constrain the Body

– Explore theories and definitions of norms, values, standards, and habits.

– Discuss the fashion industry as an example of norms that constrain the body.

New Medications

– Review literature on the development and market introduction of new medications.Discuss historical precedents where medications have led to changes in societal norms or behaviors.£

Medications to Norms

  • Examine pathways through which products like Ozempic become societal norms.
  • Discuss the implications for consumer behaviour and fashion trends, which results in psychological and sociological responses behind this process.

The aim is to write on these with a link to Fashion (I am in a fashion MANAGEMENT course)

The teacher believes there is a space of research in this domain, which poses the question:

is it the the product that actually creates these norms. They open up the need before we are aware of it is needed because having a product on the market makes us think we must need it.
