Transplantation of Human Embryonic Stem Cell-Derived Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cells in Macular Degeneration

PRESENTATIONS AND WRITTEN SUMMARY:Each student will present a detailed, 25–30–minute PowerPoint presentation to the class outlining one or moreoriginal publications, in one of the 7 topics covered in the semester. A maximum of three students canpresent on a specific topic. You can sign up (first come, first serve) for your topic in the BlackboardDiscussions area. Original publications are defined as peer–reviewed, experimental or study–based journalarticles that are not a Review. You will be required to send me your main article via email no later than 2–weeks prior to your presentation for approval.Tips for Your Presentation:• Choose at topic that interests you either conceptually or methodologically.• Utilize PubMed to identify a popular, interesting and/or controversial journal article to present.1. Research any preceding or follow–up publications that can also be presented to enhanceyour summary.2. Feel free to use Review articles to guide your research. Just don’t present that content.• Convey an opinion on the efficacy, utility, or any concerns you may have on the results andconclusions that your publications suggest.I would like to see you organize your presentation as follows:1. Brief introduction to the topic and how your articles fit into the field.2. If relevant, a brief description of preceding research articles.3. A summary and explanation of the Materials and Methods of your main article.4. A summary and explanation of the Results and Conclusions of your main article.5. If relevant, a brief description of the follow–up articles.6. Your opinions and criticisms of the publication and it’s impact on the field.Note: A Rubric for your presentation and written summary is provided for you on Blackboard.You will also hand in a 1000–word summary of the impact that your article has had in the field.This should not be a copy of what you presented, but rather, a high–level commentary on how thiswork is/was received. This may include remarks on whether this research helped the advancement offurther discoveries or even social media debates regarding their findings.
