Article 28 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) states: “Everyone is entitled to a social and international order in which the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration can be fully realized.” For this assignment, reflect on the extent to which such a social and international order, based on human rights, has been accomplished–or not–in the second half of the 20th century and first two decades of the 21st century by doing the following:
- Use the two provided themes (Theme 1: Libration/Decolonization; Theme 2: Development) to frame your answer, slides on those themes are attached below.
- Have a global focus, using examples from at least two different continents.
- Only use provided sources. Cite all sources used in correct MLA format with in-text citations. There are a total of 4 articles to cite and 3 slides to use. You do not need to have in-text citation for the slides, but you do need to use the slides as your sources. Include a Works Cited as the last page of your paper.
Purpose (paragraph 1): Organize your Purpose paragraph as a very brief introduction that closes with the main point/argument that you’ll be making in response to the prompt above and how you’ll go about supporting that main point/argument (your reasons).
Synthesis (paragraph 2+): Each Synthesis paragraph should address one of the reasons you noted in the Purpose paragraph. These reasons should be presented in the order you presented them in the Purpose paragraph. Each paragraph should have a topic sentence, specific evidence/details from the source readings, and analysis that supports the main point/argument you made in the Purpose paragraph.
Reflection (final paragraph): Conclude your paper by connecting the themes, readings, and/or topics you’ve discussed in your Purpose and Synthesis paragraphs to a current human rights issue. How could that theme, reading, and/or topic inform your understanding of the issue?
