In this assignment, you will build upon your summary and paraphrasing skills, while demonstrating how to directly quote from source material and include corresponding parenthetical citations to document your research using the Freedhoof and Stevenson article “Frying up hospital cafeteria food”. Additionally, you will also include an MLA formatted works cited citation, which will be a future requirement in all essay assessments, including the research project. Please use the ENG 102 M2 Template and customize it as shown in the M2 MLA Template video (Time: 4:08; closed captions available). Once your template is ready, please demonstrate the following:
- First, using your own words, summarize the ENTIRE article in one paragraph. Do not include any quotations. Make sure to provide an in-text citation at the end of your summary. Label your paragraph “Summary.”
- Second, using your own words, paraphrase ONE of the paragraphs (your choice) within the article. Do not include any quotations. Make sure to provide an in-text citation. Label your paragraph “Paraphrase.”
- Third, write the thesis statement provided by the authors as a direct quote. Make sure to provide an in-text citation. (Hint: thesis statements are often placed as the last sentence of the introductory paragraph).
- Finally, create a Works Cited entry for the source (Freedhoff and Stevenson’s article.). Use Calvin College KniteCite Bibliography Machine and click on the ‘journal’ tab to input the information from the article to generate a works cited citation. However, if you are accessing this article via the library databases, simply click on the ‘cite’ icon once you have accessed the full article as a pdf and click on “MLA format” to copy and paste the works cited citation onto your works cited page.
