In this assignment you are going to be taking a deeper look at the UNDP’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). The 17 goals laid forth for “programme development” by 2030 are:
- No poverty
- Zero Hunger
- Good health and well-being
- Quality education
- Gender equality
- Clean water and sanitation
- Affordable and clean energy
- Decent work and economic growth
- Industry, innovation, and infrastructure
- Reduced inequalities
- Sustainable cities and communities
- Responsible consumption and production
- Climate action
- Life below water
- Life on land
- Peace, justice, and strong institutions
- Partnerships for the goals
- Do you agree with the rankings? Many view these in order of importance and necessity.
- If not these SDG’s, what ELSE do you think is important?
- Please re-order the SDG’s or, feel free to narrow them to a top 5-10 most important, one being the most important, and 5 being the least important. If you have made a new list, rank those.
- Now, choose one SDG, and discuss its interpretation through your research, and what is missing, if any crucial information needed to obtain the goal?
- Take a realist, rationalist, or revolutionist approach to the SDG you have chosen to interpret. What is your action plan to accomplish this SDG? This must be a well-researched approach, even if only in one small part of the world. Use your imagination, but be sure to base this on sound IR theory and diplomacy.
Write a minimum of 500 words in APA format. You can write more if you like. When quoting government documents and scholarly articles, use direct quotations or paraphrase, use parenthetical in-text citations, as well. If you choose to quote from any text, make sure to use APA in-text citations and include a reference page. It is expected your action plan will not be arbitrary or trivial—it will need to be based upon research. The reference page is not part of your word count.
