case study: Your task will be to explain how all those issues apply or not to that particular real-life scenario, demonstrating thus clear and systematic (not partial) knowledge of the chapter

  1. For these papers, you will be ahead of time provided with a real-life medical story
that relates to the issues covered in one chapter we discussed in class. Your task will be to explain
how all those issues apply or not to that particular real-life scenario, demonstrating thus clear and
systematic (not partial) knowledge of the chapter. These papers aim at upholding your degree of
involvement in the course, enhancing your comprehension of the issues raised in the texts, and
sharpening your philosophy writing skills. Topics will be becoming available as we fishing each
chapter, every week or so, and I will be providing structural guidelines regarding the main
components of your essays. For the first essay topic, besides writing in-class arguments that are
components of the essay, you will also upload a full draft online for comments before submitting
the final version. In total, eight topics will be available (final number may slightly differ
depending on the flow class discussions or unforeseen circumstances). You will be required to
submit two essays on topics of your choice, one for the midterm portion of the course (chapters 1-
4), and one for the final portion (chapters 5-8).

  1. C2. Length. For a minimum passing grade (C or below), minimum 800 words of meaningful and
focused text are required. Double or triple the minimum length to be considered for B or A
accordingly. The chapters we discuss are quite long, and thus much longer and detailed papers are
sought for better grades. Always have in mind that is both the quantity (amount of effort), as well
as the quality (depth) of your writing that will produce the sought outcome.
  2. C3. Assessment. It is paramount that your essays are clear, detailed, and written with care. After
I read each set of papers, I will be discussing the results with you in class and soliciting your
feedback about the issues you faced. I will be also providing feedback and guidance both for the
entire class, as well as individually to all students who have submitted a paper. Your essays will
be evaluated and graded based on a. the clarity/quality of your understanding of the issues raised
in the text as those relate to the real-life story you are examining, b. the quality of your reflections
on those issues, and c. the amount of effort invested. You should not invest minimum effort and
expect maximum reward, and at the same time, you should not go only for quantity (length)
    without quality (depth).
