Overview
This assignment is designed to help you formulate a thesis that you think you may use in your “Who does Matthew Say Jesus is” paper and to provide an outline of the key points you anticipate being in that paper. This will offer you an opportunity to share where you think your final paper is going and for the instructor to offer feedback at an earlier stage in the writing process. Before beginning this assignment, review your work in and the feedback on the various worksheets and relevant forums.
Instructions
This assignment must include three things:
- A tentative thesis that you anticipate including for your “who does Matthew say Jesus is” paper.
- An outline of the main points your paper will develop
- A list of the non-biblical sources from the course that you anticipate including
Additional parameters and details
- The assignment should be about one – two single spaced pages total
- Before trying to write out your thesis, try to identify and describe the major motifs, themes, or big picture ideas in the story Matthew tells about Jesus. Once you have identified those, synthesize them into a clear, specific, and nuanced claim about the portrayal of Jesus in Matthew.
- The outline portion of this assignment should note the major themes, motifs, or big ideas you will develop in your argument about how Matthew portrays Jesus. Describe these main points and at least note some relevant texts from Matthew that will help you develop the ideas. It is acceptable to use bullet points for this section, but they should be well-developed and descriptive bullet points. Remember the goal is to give the instructor an idea of where you are going so that they can offer better feedback that will help you later when it comes time to write your “who does Matthew say Jesus is” paper. The more developed your ideas, the better feedback you can expect.
- The “Who does Matthew say Jesus is” essay must engage at least any two required readings from the course other than the Bible. It must also engage at least one essay from the Texts @ Contexts volume that was NOT required. For this assignment, you only need to note which sources you intend to use to fulfill these requirements.
