Students will choose to write their paper on one of the provided essay topics (students may ask the instructor for approval if they want to write their own question). These essays are not research projects. Outside research is actively discouraged: you need not make use of materials beyond texts we have read for the course. The aim is to have students engage critically with a topic covered in the course readings and lectures.
Essays should be no longer than 1600 words long (approx. 5 pages, not including references, papers under 1300 words and longer than 1600 will receive a 3% penalty). Detailed instructions on how to write philosophy essays will be covered during lecture with additional resources posted on Brightspace. Essays should be submitted electronically to Brightspace by 11:59 pm on April 9th. Essays will be processed with Turnitin plagiarism detection software.
