Content analysis is one of the most used methods of research and can be both qualitative (focused on interpreting and understanding) and quantitative (focused on counting and measuring). Content analysis focuses on the messages of communication, specifically by looking at artifacts such as the content of social media platforms, web sites, letters to the editor, editorials, news reports, advertisements, news releases, visual images, etc. Content analysis measures specific units of analysis to gain factual insight into message content, sources, channels, and so on. Content analysis often takes a comparative or historical approach.
