Plato believes the soul is not the body, he can only say: soul is not composite, never changing, not mortal.
Aristotle believes the soul is the form of the body having life potentially in it – the first grade of actuality of a natural organized body
-essence of a natural body
-inseparable from the body
I side with Plato because I feel that our soul separates and rises to the heavens once we die.
Quotes to use:
“Are they ever the same and in the same state, or do they vary from one time to another” (Phaedo d78, Pg. 117)
“If the soul exists before, it must as it comes to life and birth, come from nowhere else than death and being dead” (Phaedo d77, Pg. 116)
“One part of ourselves is the body, another part is the soul” (Phaedo d79, Pg. 117)
“Our souls existed apart from the body before they took human form, and they had intelligence” (Phaedo c76, Pg. 115)
“When a man dies, his soul is dispersed and this is the end of its existence” (Phaedo b77, Pg. 115)
Make the thesis similar to this: I stand strongly with the opinion of Plato’s because of religious beliefs and how death becomes the separation of the soul from the body.
