Write 3 pages (including references page), double spaced, 12 point font. If many graphs are used (though not required), please include them in an Appendix to the paper and a reference page for any sourced citations.
Choose one of the topics covered throughout the duration of this course and write about how either fiscal and/or monetary policy tools have recently been applied to the economic circumstances discussed. Finally, write about the extent to which such tools have or have not been effective during this current crisis. This is an opportunity to discuss current events and to pick a topic of interest.
**MAKE SURE TO USE A THIRD PAGE FOR A WORK CITED**
This is something that can be performed while the class is ongoing as we cover that material. For example, we will have covered GDP, CPI and unemployment and afterwards begin working on topics of fiscal policy. Additionally, since many monetary / fiscal policy topics are covered from that point on, we will generally have one chapter per week for the second part of the term such that students do not get overwhelmed and are able to focus on writing up their thoughts before the end of the term.
Please note that quantitative analytics are not strictly required for this paper. However, students should cite any relevant metrics (unemployment rates, interest rates, GDP, stock market index levels, etc.). If many graphs are used (though not required), then please include them in an Appendix separate from the body of the paper. In particular, the essay should discuss: ● Why you selected the particular economic policy/theory to discuss.
● Economic and non-economic characteristics of the crisis facing the chosen country ● The depth of the economic problem facing the chosen country (cite metrics that are applicable)
● How the relevant chosen policy or economic tools have been applied during the crisis. ● Conclusions based on research – Has the problem been resolved or is there still some road ahead before things improve.
