Embracing Grit: Teaching Students to More Than Persevere Summative Final Project

Tasks:
Participants will create a presentation that educates a selected audience on the grit
mentality and strategies for grit development in the classroom.
A minimum of 12 slides and 10 resources should be used.
Participants can use the milestone topics as a guide on what information should be
additionally covered in the presentation depending on the selected audience.

1. Examine current research on grit development classroom models for both virtual
and in-person classrooms.
1.1 Define what grit is.
1.2 Reflect on the variety of grit strategies that are prevalent in your
teaching.
1.3 Explore a variety of grit implementation strategies.
1.4 Research effective grit strategies and applications for a variety of
age levels. 
2. Explore grit frameworks for increasing grit and perseverance in the classroom.
2.1 Explore signs, symptoms, and characteristics of gritty students.
2.2 Research how grit is different from perseverance and resilience.
2.3 Examine factors that influence and foster grit in the classroom and
at home. 
3. Explore lesson planning options to increase grit and engage students on how to
learn, grow, and reflect when working on difficult tasks.
3.1 Explore ways to utilize different frameworks to help students
understand productive struggle.
3.2 Research best practices in lesson planning and activity
development that increase grit and success through productive
struggle.
3.3 Reflect on past classroom lesson planning strategies and how they
can be fine-tuned to embed more grit strategies. 
4. Examine digital and online resources that aid in the development of grit.
4.1 Explore additional resources that can be used to help students
adjust to difficult/challenging experiences.
4.2 Explore a variety of grit assessments and checklists to measure grit
development.
4.3 Develop a checklist/toolkit for students to reflect on grit.
4.4 Reflect on current practices and how your methods and resources
have evolved during this course milestone. 
5. Develop an understanding of how to model grit in your classroom.
5.1 Research and reflect on one’s personal experience with grit
development.
5.2 Explore the characteristics of grit-infused teachers.
5.3 Examine classroom teachers that model grit behaviors.
5.4 Explore implementation techniques and strategies to improve grit in
classroom interactions. 
6. Develop an understanding of how classroom assessments and responses impact
grit.
6.1 Reflect on current practices of assessing students and feedback
that is given.
6.2 Explore how student feedback on assessments impacts grit
development.
6.3 Examine current research on development using formative
assessments.
6.4 Explore implementation techniques and reformatting of current
assessments to help students develop a more grit approach to
being assessed. 
7. Explore how goal setting and a grit mentality can improve student wellbeing.
7.1 Explore classroom goal-setting frameworks.
7.2 Examine how goal-setting frameworks can be intertwined with a
grit mentality.
7.3 Explore web resources to help develop your goal setting and grit
implementation plan. 
8. Examine how to best educate parents on the grit mentality and how they can be
supported at home and within the classroom.
8.1 Review methods and mediums to educate parents on the grit
mentality and the support you have in your classroom.
8.2 Identify key points, benefits, and concerns particular to your school
community and classroom when fostering a grit mentality.
8.3 Devise a plan to educate and communicate with parents about the
grit mentality within your classroom.
