Social Psychology Prof, Anderson Spring 2024
Steps for Source Analysis Paper:
Now that you have chosen your topic that will present a solid argument for (a controversial topic).
-
Why is this topic so controversial and how will you defend it and, or support it?
-
Your research must be credible for both primary and secondary data.
-
Can your arguments be validated by your research?
Give broad examples. Be focused and specific about your chosen topic.
For example, if you are writing about education, what about it are you going to write about-EXAMPLES> “woke” info – appropriate or not appropriate?
Need a focus on reading and other subject matter that is being neglected, are all students in public education being passed on even when students are not achieving grade goals,
Once you narrow down your issue to a specific focus, write 3-5 sentences detailing what your research will be focusing on. This will form the basis of your HYPOTHESIS.
BE AWARE EX: IF YOUR TOPIC IS THE DEATH PENALTY TOPIC JUST STATING THIS ISSUE IS NOT ENOUGH!
Example-The legality of the death penalty-capital punishment has been debated for decades. One can argue that the death penalty violates the 8th Amendment’s statue banning cruel and unusual punishment, etc., etc.
Paper Objectives:
1. Explain and develop your own ideas.
2. Identify, analyze and evaluate arguments in your words as well as other research data.
3. Develop well-reasoned arguments in support of a conclusion or a point of view by qualitative and quantitative research questions.
EXPECTATIONS:
Develop a hypothesis-“What’s the problem and conduct research that will validate or invalidate your hypothesis”).
Identify the type of analysis you will be using (surveys, interviews, observational studies, case studies, government documents, public records.
(DO NOT USE PRONOUNS -I, YOU, WE, ETC.).
ALWAYS BEGIN YOUR HYPOTHESIS MADE ON LIMITED EVIDENCE AS A STARTING POINT AND BUILD ON IT THROUGH FURTHER INVESTIGATION. NEVER STATE SOMETHING AS FACT WHEN YOU DO NOT HAVE EVIDENCE TO SUBSTANTIATE THE ARUGMENT!
There is no need to define your topic since it is very controversial.
Use primary research data to formulate your own conclusions.
Use secondary research to serve as evidence to back up your central arguments.
Research must be cited with internal citations even if is not a direct quote. Also cited on your bibliography page. MLA
A MINIMUM OF 4-5 references
