Paper Topic: Jesus and the Kingdom of God – what did the
kingdom mean for Jesus? How significant was the kingdom for Jesus’ Preaching?
I have included the resources to include in the paper.
This paper requirement will be linked variously to Learning
Outcomes 2-5, depending upon the topic chosen, in that the claims of the paper
must be supported by historical-critical and/or literary evaluation of the
major themes and the major historical and cultural settings. addressed in one of
the outcomes listed among other possible topics. It is linked to Learning
Outcome 2 in that it will require students to locate those themes within the
social, historical, religious, and literary worlds of first and second century
Jewish and Greco-Roman thought. It is linked to Learning Outcome 3 in
that it will provide the students opportunity to engage in summary and
evaluation of contemporary secondary literature about the life and teachings of
Jesus. It is linked to Learning Outcome 4 in that it will give an
opportunity for students to be exposed to and reflect upon diverse perspectives
of interpretation. It is linked to Learning Outcome 5 in that it will help
students to demonstrate through written reflection the theological and
sociological significance of the life and teachings of Jesus for themselves and
their own faith.
