For your assignment, make sure to add appropriate in-text citations as well as the reference citations. The example in the book does not have in-text citations, but you are required to include them in your assignment.
Suggested process:
In appropriate APA format do a working references page for your research project. This references page should have 6-8 alphabetized sources of your preliminary research. (You may add to your references page as you continue to work on the research project. Later, this bibliography will serve as a references page when summaries are removed and the title is changed to References.)
Then, under each reference citation, annotate your references by paraphrasing the part of the source that you will use as support for the research paper paragraphs and mention why you chose that source for your paper.
You can target your research for specific sections of the thesis; the formal thesis statement from the last module will have subtopics to research separately. The general information will go in the introduction; you won’t need too much of that.
Make sure to document your annotation in-text. Make sure to paraphrase at least 80% of the assignment.
There is a 20% maximum on direct quotations. See the rubric following for how the assignment will be graded.
Here is an example of a bibliographic entry:
Ehrenreich, B. (2001). Nickel and dimed: On (not) getting by in America. New York: Henry Holt and Company.
In this book of nonfiction based on the journalist’s experiential research, Ehrenreich (2001) attempts to ascertain whether it is currently possible for an individual to live on a minimum-wage in America. Taking jobs as a waitress, a maid in a cleaning service, and a Walmart sales employee, the author summarizes and reflects on her work, her relationships with fellow workers, and her financial struggles in each situation.
An experienced journalist, Ehrenreich is aware of the limitations of her experiment and the ethical implications of her experiential research tactics and reflects on these issues in the text. The author is forthcoming about her methods and supplements her experiences with scholarly research on her places of employment, the economy, and the rising cost of living in America. Ehrenreich’s project is timely, descriptive, and well-researched.
Don’t forget to add how the source fits the core structure of the argument:
This example will fit in paragraph two of part one of the essay, and it will illustrate the difficulties of surviving in America.
