Title : Magic, Morality, And Humanism: Shakespeare’s Subversion Of Elizabethan Beliefs In The Tempest
Question the case study focuses around “To what extent does Shakespeare’s portrayal of magic, morality, and monarchy in ‘The Tempest’ challenge and subvert the hierarchical power structures and moral frameworks of Elizabethan society, particularly in light of King James I’s beliefs about witchcraft and divine right?”
Main Sections I want to dive into ( this can change ):
1. The Elizabethan Era : the view on magic, dive into James V of england
Your final task is to write a critical, scholarly paper on any literary text from the syllabus belonging to the Renaissance, Romantic, Indigenous, and Contemporary units. Advance a unique argument on what magic means in your text, and how that text is a “case study” of the period to which it belongs. Show me the insights gleaned from your close reading skills. Then, support these ideas with research conducted by other scholars. Remember, these scholars should be used to support your own ideas—don’t just follow them blindly! For your “works cited,” I expect to see you draw on at least ONE academic book, ONE peer-reviewed, scholarly article, and ONE reputable, popular online source (you are absolutely encouraged to re-use those sources that you discovered for your annotated bibliography). Combined with the primary text (your chosen novel, play, or poem), you should be aiming for about 5-6 “works cited” entries. Any more than this will be too much for an essay of this length. And, make sure you do not crowd out your own voice by relying on other scholars to do all the thinking! ~1500-2000 words, or 6-8 pages.
Extra:
1. Below I attached my annotated biolography, in which I would like you guys to at least use 2 sources for the 5 sources in total. Please remember to quote shakespeare, the tempest lines ( center the essay around the tempest being the main text ), try to include key words if u can like magic, occultism, humanism, morality etc.
2. I attached an example of my work ( the journal and annotated ), please make the essay good but not unbelievable.
