Choose two theories from among dependency, selectorate, and interest group theories. Analyse how they each challenge the neoliberal perspective on specific international economic structures and policies.

1、This is a short essay assignment on political economy, so please do not deviate from the ideas of political economy. (You don’t need to mention IPE in the essay, just keep the style)

and this essay is required to explain the theory as the focus, supplemented by case studies, which is very important, the ratio is about 70% theory, 30% case studies (or even less).

2、The format of the essay can refer to my draft, a short introduction (150 words or less) (only natural expression of the argument plus a Roadmap), plus a few body paragraphs, and finally, please add a conclusion (100 words or so), and keep the overall essay at 1300 words or
 so.
3、About the content, I chose how dependency theory and interest group theory can challenge neoliberalism’s view of particular international economic structures and policies (this paper chose free trade policies within NAFTA). So I’ve split the topic paragraph into three, and I’d like you to start by explaining neoliberalism as well, and then present the other two theories’ challenges to it in the next two paragraphs.
4、Because I have divided into three main paragraphs, and the article should be more concerned about the theoretical explanation, so each main paragraph in front of the part I used to explain the theory, and finally came with a case study of NAFTA (was asked to take up a small part of the word count), I need you to revise these main paragraphs, especially the dependence theory and interest group theory of the two, so that its theory and case study more convincing and logical.
5、I will provide the corresponding source but if you think it is not perfect or good enough, you can add or replace it, but the number should not be more than six.
6, the content of the article does not have to be difficult and complex, more is required to express clearly, logical, persuasive, if you think I choose the case study is very bad, you can replace, but the theory, please keep the theory of dependence and interest group theory.
Finally, this is the advice given by my course instructor, I hope you can refer to:
You need to be careful with your wording and eliminate as much nonsense as possible from your article (this means eliminating all content related to the grand history of these theories). In its place, define these theories and see what makes them relate to each other. For example, in terms of the role of the state in the economy, where does neoliberalism fall in comparison to selectivity and interest group theories? Or, who are the key players in these theories and what does this mean for how the global system is organized based on the preferences of these players. You can address both the role of the WTO and how countries impose tariffs, as they are related, or you can choose just one specific policy, such as tariffs or intellectual property protection laws. Second, the question asks you to compare 3 theories (neoliberalism and 2 of the other 3). You can structure your essay however you like, but it is generally good practice to start by explaining neoliberalism and identifying what the assumptions behind neoliberalism are that make it different from the other theories in the way it is organized. Here, you need to define a key difference, such as the actors or parts that make the theory work.
