Your summative assessment will consist of a critical discussion of a field specific case study. These patient/person focused case studies will be provided for you and allow a choice of one from two.
The 2500-word critical discussion will focus on the application of nursing assessment to demonstrate understanding of medicines management, including pharmacological processes and the role of the nurse to ensure safe, ethical practice.

Choose 1 of the 2 case studies for your field of practice. Explore and apply contemporary evidence-based literature to critically address the essay criteria.
- Summarise the patient history and information you would require to assess the patient’s medication needs’. 20%
- Choose one medication from the case study and use contemporary evidence to explore how this medication manages the identified condition, showing an understanding of the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of this drug. 40%
- Identify an ethical consideration relating to the chosen medication and critically discuss the nurse’s role in ensuring safe and ethical administration of this medication. 40%
