Prompt
Choose a religion, denomination, or faith practice that has not been discussed in this course. In a paper of around fifteen-hundred (1500) words, discuss how this religion, denomination, or faith practice was influenced by American life or thought or how this religion, denomination, or faith practice influenced American life or thought.
You will need to have at least ONE (1) primary source and at least FOUR (4) other sources. These may be scholarly or popular sources.
There are multiple ways to approach this project:
- Choose an event or practice in American history and use the lens of one religion, faith practice, or denomination to examine that event or practice.
- Discuss how a faith shaped itself to fit into or to stay separate from American culture.
- Consider how America views a particular faith, denomination, or faith practice and the reasons for this view.
- Explore your own faith, denomination, or faith practice (if it has not been discussed in class). How does it shape your view of America? How do others in America view it? What adaptations did the faith make to assimilate into American culture? What ways did the faith reject mainstream American culture?
These four ideas are simply a few of the many ways you might approach this project. Your proposal and outline will help your instructor to give you feedback on your ideas.
