Content

*Introduction/Thesis: An introduction that introduces the topic, but doesn’t present the argument until the

thesis statement. For an argumentative essay, the thesis should include the topic, opinion (the side you are

on), supporting points, as well as acknowledgement of the opposing viewpoint.

* Idea Development: Body paragraphs provide support for the thesis statement. Ethos, logos, and/or pathos

are used effectively. Paper should be free of logical fallacies.

*Support of Claims: Presentation of logical/reasonable examples that supports the thesis statement. The

quotes/paraphrases used will help to support the claims.

*Conclusion: The final paragraph clinches the piece well, leaving the reader completely satisfied. It

synthesizes, but doesn’t just summarize or restate the thesis. It avoids starting with a cliché like “in

conclusion.” “in other words.” or “in summary.”

Counterargument

*Counterargument/ Support of Claims: Two Counterarguments are included. Presentation of

logical/reasonable examples that supports each of the counterarguments. The quotes/paraphrases used will

help to support the claims.

*Rebuttal: Rebuttals for both counterarguments are included.
