Critically discuss the advantages and disadvantages of food processing on nutritional status and health
Overview of assignment:
Rationale: As a nutritionist you will need to stay abreast of contemporary advances in nutrition in terms of policy, practice, and research, in order to make the best-informed decisions.
Aim: The purpose of this assignment is to evaluate your knowledge in the understanding of contemporary nutrition issues by efficiently collecting, synthesizing, and appraising the most up-to-date literature. You will present a structured summary of the existing evidence and discuss the future directions in the field.
Step 1: Perform a rigorous literature search using the skills you have acquired in the first semester. Please note that you are not required to conduct a systematic review, but a systematic search process is recommended. It is advised that your search strategy produces at least 15 peer reviewed publications, focusing on the strongest forms of evidence where possible.
Step 2: When reading and evaluating the literature, use appropriate critical appraisal techniques to help you (e.g. Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (http://www.casp-uk.net).
Step 3: Prepare a 3000 word (± 10%) narrative review. It is advisable that you structure and present your findings in a similar format to other narrative reviews published in Obesity Reviews, for example:

- The ability to critically examine contemporary nutrition research literature as a basis for nutrition practice and policy.
- The ability to critically discuss the latest research findings concerned with the nutritional implications of food components. The mechanisms of how food components influence health or disease, the emergence of sustainable food and nutrition, chrononutrition and gene-diet interactions are examples of the types of issues examined.
- The ability to critically review and analyse methods and findings of relevance to contemporary nutrition research.
- The ability to critically evaluate and analyse the central role of contemporary nutrition in the field of public health.
