Proposal/Annotated Bibliography of the couse of Applied Literary Theory and Criticism

Overview
This assignment is the first step in writing the final paper. Please review the instructions for the final paper before working on this assignment.

The Proposal/Annotated Bibliography is a two-part assignment. Part I, the proposal, is a one-page, double-spaced document that answers three questions:

  • What research question do you plan to study in the final paper? What theoretical perspective guides your research question?

  • What information do you need to learn and analyze to answer the research question?

  • What inspired your research question and why do you think the question is worth studying?

Part II, the Annotated Bibliography, requires you to locate, cite, and summarize five secondary sources you plan to use in the final paper. One of these sources must be the Bennett & Royle textbook.

The purpose of this assignment is to help you plan and begin working on the final paper.

Formatting
Double-space the entire document and use either MLA or APA format for the citations.  Include either an MLA heading or an APA title page.  Title the document “Proposal and Annotated Bibliography.”

Begin with the proposal. Use “Proposal” as the title. Use the proposal to address the questions listed above. Aim for one complete, double-spaced page of content. Do not exceed one page.

After the proposal, begin the annotated bibliography on a new page.  List the citations in alphabetical order.  Cite and summarize five sources you plan to use in the paper.  One of the citations must be for the Bennett & Royle textbook.  Each summary paragraph should be 50-75 words in length.  Write in first-person.  Use the summary paragraph to identify the main ideas in the source and to explain how the source will be useful in your paper.  An example of one annotated bibliography entry appears below.  The sample entry uses MLA format for the citation.
