In this final presentation, you will integrate all the knowledge you have learned in this class by researching a successful or unsuccessful case of a company’s cross-cultural strategy and management in a certain country.

Note that this needs to be a case that we haven’t discussed in our lectures and discussions unless you have much more material and deeper insights to offer. Some examples are TikTok in US, Mexico, or Indonesia, Pinterest in Germany, France, or Brazil, Twitter in Japan, India, or UK.

I recommend you research the library databases such as Business Source Complete, in addition to Google. In addition, you will get 15% bonus points if you are able to talk to someone from the company for some insider insights, e.g. from family or friends, connecting to someone on LinkedIn, or contacting investor relations.

The following is to help guide your research:

  • The Company
    • Provide a brief company profile and its success thru some financial numbers, including size (market cap), revenue, profit, revenue growth rate, profit growth rate, return on equity, etc., for the last 5 years.

    • What are the company’s major products/services and its business model, and how much competitive advantage does it enjoy in its industry domestically and globally?

    • What is the company’s position in its industry: Does it face significant competition, and who are its most important competitors, both domestically and globally?

  •  Country Strategy

    • Why did the company decide to enter this country? How important is this country to the company as a whole? How much of the company’s revenue, profit, and customers come from this country, if available?

    • What have been some challenges of doing business in this country? Provide some examples, e.g., different political, legal technological environments, dealing with government,  culture, etc.

    • How successful has the company been in this country? What is the company’s strategy in this country? Has the strategy changed over time, and how?

  • Cross-Cultural Management

    • Based on the nature of the company’s product/business, has the company adapted its product or business model in this country, and if so, how?

    • Are there other adaptations made to fit with the specific environment and culture of this country? Provide some specific examples, e.g., in organizational structure, etc.

    • How has the company managed its human resources in this country? Are top executives filled by people from the home country or locally? What about middle managers?

  • Conclusions

    • What do you think are three key successes or mistakes this company has made in its strategy and cross-cultural management in this country?

    • What are your top three recommendations about the company’s future strategy in this country?

    • Based on your research, what are the top three lessons in cross-cultural management you have learned from the experiences of this company?

Each presentation is 18-20 minutes. Make sure to include all sources on the notes page under each slide instead of at the end of the presentation.
