Rest Ashore: the Transition of Musicality from Zong! to Langston Hughes’s Blues

Incorporate NourbeSe Philip’s Zong! And Langston Hughes’s “Homesick Blues” to write about diasporic experience in terms of musicality.

Some notes for each poem:
– Homesick Blues is written in a structured Blues form where subjectivity dissolves over time, and there is an ambiguity of direction. The homesickness ismore metaphysical since the speaker knows where the home is but still feels adrift (diasporic experience), and this metaphysical homesickness is expressed in the poetic form.
– In Zong!, the speaker experiences a differnet kind of homesickness where the person knows exactly where the home is but is unable to go back to it due to the fact that he is confined in a cell on the slave ship Zong.
The former (Homesick Blues) is more geographical, whereas the latter has no sense of geography.
