A Comparative Analysis of Romantic and Victorian Perspectives Through Literary Texts”

Directions

you have been provided two reading to write mini-essays on. This means that you will have multiple paragraphs (2-3), but you do not need a formal introduction or conclusion. Your first topic sentence should be your thesis, and then you will go on to elaborate and support your argument. If you submit writings for all three selections.

Once you choose the reading, read it in your copy of The Norton Anthology of English Literature. Place your reading in the context of its period and discuss how it represents the period/movement. You cannot use any source other than the Norton Anthology. Your Norton provides background on the entire time period, and if you use the table of contents, it also has smaller introductions to periods/movements that the piece is a part of and an introduction to the author itself. You have already been doing similar analyses in your work for this class; now I’m asking you to place it and analyze it yourself.

Requirements

Requirements for your submission:

  • The document is set up in correct MLA format (worth 4 points)

  • Works Cited entry at the end of each mini-essay (worth 3 points each)

  • You should use information from other parts of The Norton Anthology, so you need a citation for those sections too. Purdue OWL explains how to cite sections of an anthology. (That is a hint.)

  • Two mini-essays on your selected reading and its connection to the literary movement/period at large (20 points each)

  • Properly integrated quotes and support

  • No outside research or use of support in your analysis.
