As a teacher, knowing how to code standards and read coded standards will significantly aid your lesson planning. For this assignment you will practice using the ELP Standards, coding them, and aligning them with content area standards, such as math and science. Understanding the differences between the ELP Standards and the proficiency levels can help you determine how to scaffold your instruction with ELs. Aligning ELPS with content area standards will be key when planning lessons for a classroom with regular education students and ELs.
Second Assignment-
Use the English Learner (EL) Interview Questions and information provided in it to prepare for and conduct your interview.
After your interview, review the notes you recorded.
Assignment Deliverable
Write a 350 word reflection in which you include:
A brief introductory paragraph that describes the former EL student, where they went to school, and what they do for a living now
A question and response section with the questions you chose for the interview and the responses from the former EL student
A conclusion that explains what you learned from the interview and the implications for working with elementary-level EL students in your future classroom
