African Americans have made strides in education, engineering, and many other professional fields, but not without a cause. From Ida B. Wells to W.E.B Du Bois, many African Americans in journalism have struggled with societal stereotypes, representation, and equality. This research paper examines the approach and methods that early African American journalists used, compared to modern day African American journalists. Through the analysis of primary sources, newspapers, and personal narratives and social media, this paper will present the differences in technique and approach through the years.
